Bandai has just announced the fate of the Power Rangers franchise after RPM, the current installment. The toy company announced that the next line of toys will be based around the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers iteration of the franchise that debuted in 1993. Old and new toys, including Megazords, action figures, vehicles, and role-playing items, will be released by January 2010 alongside a new logo.
The press release also confirmed that ABC Kids will be airing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in January 2010. This leads credence to a rumor that MMPR, which composed the first three seasons of the series, were being remastered for a release next year instead of adapting this year’s Sentai series, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger.

What this means:

They'll be forced to update the toy-lines to fall in line with new health and safety standards.
Their toy engineering skills have sky-rocketed over the last 15 years and they now own the rights to Power-Rangers, not just the toy-rights now so you can expect to see a continuation of the series if it becomes popular here.

Look forward to an updated Megazord with better articulation if the new Super Sentai sets are anything to go by.

They're doing this to appeal to a slightly older market because Japan's cashing in on a big nostalgia craze at the moment with most of its big franchises. Just about every series you'll see makes nods to older alliterations and they're hiring their original actors to fill their old roles a lot.

The reason they're now bringing it over here is because Japan's economy is basically in the shitter and Bandai is one of their braver companies more willing to properly export their franchises. If this goes down well we can look forward to being catered for as an audience not only with franchises like MMPR but shows like Gundam or Code-Geass - as Bandai had a hard relationship with the Cartoon Network prople over the rights to Gundam in the early 2000's so we might see another shot at that with writing and colloquialisms adapted for the non-domestic market if we turn out to be more profitable than Japan does.

Expect to see a Collector's Edition or Masterpiece Edition Megazord on par with the Soul of Chogokin folk's work. If you don't know what that means, google it and cry manly tears.

This is Osaka, signing out.

Edit:
Here's an example of a toy made by the Soul of Chogokin people.

The Gunbuster, one of Gainax' first OVAs. I might bring it in some time.

So Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for 2012...

I was at the mall getting some shoes and the Hot Topic store next door had a bunch of little scene fags saying how much they love Power Rangers and how they were 90's kids.

I remember the first time I watched power rangers, but I remember the toys and not the show. Fuck the show but the toys were bitchin'. Fuckin' scene kids though, they like it not because they actually like it but because it's cool and "hip" with a dash of ironic. Sometimes I wish I can create an anti-scene virus. So we get scene zombies.

When my little brother found out that I was watching Kamen Rider and Sentai he made a comment that they were "gay" and that nothing beats the original Power Rangers... Which is odd because Power Rangers is older then him and Kamen Rider/Super Sentai pre-date both of them AND they're the sauce-material...

    I can just see it...
